be-NATURE is taking shape
be-NATURE is in the midst of development. Step by step, the site is being redeveloped, with the iconic coal washes being repurposed and the unique combination of nature, heritage and experience taking center stage. In this way, be-MINE continues to grow into an attractive destination for visitors, entrepreneurs and partners.
Be-MINE nv is committed to sustainable and future-oriented development, with respect for the site’s industrial past. By reusing existing buildings and integrating nature, a place is created where recreation, tourism and entrepreneurship come together.
VRT NWS also stopped by and saw that our site is in full transformation . The press release focuses on the search for new infills for the historic buildings and reveals the opportunities this offers for the continued future of be-MINE.
A look behind the scenes
Behind the scenes, the transformation of the coal washes is underway. In the meantime, the demolition work is well advanced. More than 2,000 tons of steel have already been removed during the dismantling of the existing structures.
Work started at a height of 40 meters and has since dropped to 16 meters. In the process, the concrete is removed step by step, while the steel framework and structure of the building are preserved. Thus, the industrial character of the site remains visible.
Nature will also have a prominent place in the building. Greenery will be integrated on different levels, with the vertical park and a tree that will even be planted at a height of 26 meters as striking elements.
New opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors
With be-NATURE, we continue to build on the future of be-MINE as a strong tourist and recreational destination. But the project also creates new opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors by repurposing the building.
“Much of the area will hopefully serve for a hotel. That is our priority,” says Karolien Sas, director of be-MINE nv. With this, be-MINE wants to capitalize on the limited overnight accommodations in the region and offer visitors the chance to stay longer on and around the site.
In addition to the hotel concept, there remains room for other initiatives that fit the unique site. Think of leisure, hospitality, creative concepts or other entrepreneurial projects. This will create a multifaceted destination where tourism, nature and entrepreneurship reinforce each other.
Building the future together
Sustainability and reuse are key. By giving existing buildings a new future and integrating nature, we create a strong and future-oriented destination.
